Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The history of Mozzarella is linked to that of the water buffalo. Nobody really knows exactly when the first water buffaloes came to Italy, but one account claims that it was in the year 596 AD when they were brought across the Mediterranean. This oft-copied but never duplicated gem is a fresh, drawn-curd cheese made from whole buffalo's milk. Most people don't know what water buffalo milk tastes like, but upon one's first bite it is unmistakable that this legendary cheese is made from an unfamiliar milk. It is porcelain-white in color, spherical in shape with a very thin glossy edible rind. Mozzarella di Bufala has a springy texture and a pleasantly sourish taste with a faint mossy smell, reminiscent of the humid grazing fields of Southern Italy. Each ball comes vacuum-packed in its own brine filled carton. If you've never had the real Mozzarella before, it's definitely time you tasted this sublime delicacy. Made from pasteurized buffalo's milk.

Intresting December 16, 2003 Aaron (Canton, Michigan United States) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
I read the review but honestly know very little about fine cheese, with that in mind... Packaging: Its shipped from Italy i believe but arrived on time and in excellent packing (foam blocks and air cushions) and came with a very nice free sample of Extra Virgin Olive Oil (mini bottle) The goods: The cheese itself was a bit smaller than i had imagined and alarming because i had never known cheese to ship in brine (i missed that part in the review) and worried it to be spoiled. After closer inspection i deemed it safe for consumption, leading to the second surprise: a thin slimy (for lack of better word) skin to it, but after trying some it was very tasty and unique. Its incredible melted onto Spaghetti... Also the "Olio Carli" from Fratelli Carli that came with my order is very good and also a unique experience. Overall i would order again... if shipping were free!
